Immigration Debate in the Courts
A federal judge on Thursday heard arguments by the Justice Department in their lawsuit to overturn Arizona's controversial new immigration law, which makes it a misdemeanor to be in Arizona without proper immigration paperwork and directs police to question suspected illegal immigrants about their immigration status. In a new Immigration Reform Bulletin, Cato scholar Stuart Anderson looks at the Obama administration's prospects for comprehensive immigration reform. "Despite its pro-immigration stance," says Anderson, "the Obama administration has not been specific on what elements should (or should not) be part of a broad immigration bill."
